Giants Come Back Late, Nip Carp
|
The Hiroshima Toyo Carp got a sterling performance from pitcher Tamasine Toda, but the Giants still prevailed, 4-3. Toda was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 1-hit ball. Yomiuri reliever Kenshin Kawamoto picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Yuichi Vermont shouldered the loss. Losses have been few and far between for the Carp so far this season. Their record drops to 2-1.
Craig Deschner was the walk-off hero for Yomiuri. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Giants first baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
After the game, Yomiuri manager Masato Ojima applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
