Field of the Chariots was the site of the home opener for the Saitama Seibu Lions. The contest featured a prime matchup between Pete Willoughby of the visiting Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters and Jesus Ambriz of the Lions. The final score was 10-0, the Fighters getting the win. Earning player of the game honors was Kunimitsu Kawamura. Pete Willoughby was the winning pitcher. Over 7 innings, he allowed no runs on 2 hits, with no walks and 9 strikeouts.

Wang Che drove in one run for Hokkaido Nippon-Ham. The 20-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With no one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Jesus Ambriz. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
