Panthers Come Back Late, Nip Jaguars

Both teams had their chances, but the Pitman High Panthers eventually prevailed at Batfish Ballpark.
Pitman High Panthers starter Matt Merlet was locked-in. He led his team to a win over the Jacksonville State Jaguars, 4-3. Merlet, the winner, moves to 5-0. He threw 8.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 12 and giving up 4 walks. Jerome Dixon closed the door for Pitman High, picking up his 1st save of the year.
Pitman High took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With no one out, catcher Carlos Figueroa hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Merlet.
The Jaguars, now 7-18, have lost 6 in a row.
