Derby and Kearny High got after it at Loggers Ballpark.

The Derby Panthers topped the Kearny High Cardinals, 14-7, with designated hitter Tom Vallis playing a big role. Vallis was 2-5 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5 for the Panthers in the win. Jack Warren picked up the win with 5.1 innings of work. He allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits, while walking 8 and striking out 6. On the season, he is now 1-0.

When the Panthers needed a boost, it was the light-hitting Vallis who delivered. Facing Kearny High pitcher Jared Lesley the top of the fourth with the bases loaded, Vallis hit his 1st home run of the year. It made the score 10-5.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Vallis.

The Panthers bumped their record to 10-10 with this latest triumph.
