The Grand Island Islanders beat the Santa Clara Vampires, 18-1, at Ballpark of Morelia HS. Grand Island right fielder Vince Jarvis earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He was 4-6 with 2 home runs and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 7. The Islanders have an impressive 12-7 record.

When the Islanders needed a boost, it was the light-hitting Jarvis who delivered. Facing Santa Clara pitcher Gerry Hale the bottom of the eighth with the bases loaded, Jarvis hit his 6th home run of the year. It made the score 17-1.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Jarvis said after the game.
