Corder Excels, But Panthers Win
|
Pitman High and Riverside duked it out at Apollos Ballpark and the Panthers came out victorious.
Jack Corder did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Riverside Poly from losing, 9-6, to the Pitman High Panthers at Apollos Ballpark. Corder belted 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Pitman High reliever Fernando Ramos was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Chris Anderson took the loss for Riverside.
A key at-bat in the game came in the top of the ninth inning when the Panthers sent teenager Joel Gibbs to the plate against Poly hurler Josh Bordner. With the bases loaded and a whole stadium watching, the kid controlled his nerves and delivered huge, hitting a single off a 0-1 slider to score 2.
"It was offense that won us the game," said winning manager Juan Lopez.
Pitman High goes to 4-2 with the win.
