Monarchs Come Back Late to Top Royales
|
The Montreal Royales got a sterling performance from pitcher Bill Cross, but the Monarchs still prevailed, 4-3. Cross was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of shutout ball. London reliever Conor Bruce picked up the win, bumping his record to 3-2. Alan Best was collared with the loss. London leads the Lester B. Person League East Division by 3 games.
Had Kirk Valcourt not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Valcourt hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Monarchs.
"I'm a bit of a clubhouse prankster," said Valcourt. "But it's all business when we're on the field."
