Stars Rally to Eke Out Win
|
The Victoria Capitals got a sterling performance from left fielder Gideon Vaillancourt, but the Stars still prevailed, 7-6. Vaillancourt was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 4 for 5 with a home run, 3 singles, and a walk. Niagara reliever Rick Coombs was credited with the win, to go to 4-1. Sean Gillis took the loss for Victoria. Niagara goes to 21-28, Victoria to 22-27.
The Stars got a big at-bat from right fielder Frank Wickett. For the game, Wickett was 4 for 7 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. In the top of the 14th, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 63rd hit of the season gave Niagara a 7-6 lead.
Wickett told a Niagara Daily reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
