Royales Raise Rally Flag, Beat Saskatoon, 9-8
|
Montreal beat Saskatoon at Eliminators Ballpark, eking out a 9-8 win. The win was due in large part to left fielder Terry Merritt, who earned player of the game honors. Montreal reliever Stephen Lau got the win, raising his record to 1-0. Brian Gunter was tagged with the loss. The Royales move to 17-11 with the win, while the Legends drop to 17-11.
Tom Kirby was the walk-off hero for Montreal. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Royales third baseman hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
Kirby said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
