Stars Topple Capitals with Late Rally

Victoria left fielder Rick Pépin had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Pépin was 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk, even as Niagara beat the Capitals, 5-4. Pépin was named the player of the game despite the loss. Niagara reliever Rick Coombs was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Jack Hepburn. The Stars now have a record of 7-10.
The Stars got a big at-bat from shortstop George Greening. For the game, Greening was 1 for 4. In the top of the eighth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 23rd hit of the season gave Niagara a 5-4 lead.
"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Greening told the Niagara Daily.
