Monarchs Lose to Heat in Walk Off
|
The Heat had to overcome a fine effort from London pitcher Mike Navarro to grab a narrow 4-2 win at Brantford College Grounds. Navarro went 6 innings and allowed 1 earned run. The winner was Tom Simpson in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Harry Ayotte took the loss. Losses have been few and far between for the Monarchs so far this season. Their record drops to 5-2.
The game was decided with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Kelowna trailing 2-1, Bill O'Leary hit a cutter from Harry Ayotte to right for a 3-run home run. Just like that, the Heat had a walk-off win.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Kelowna skipper Bob Cunningham.
