Armada Best Earthquakes in Pitching Duel
|
Carlos Estrada pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The San Francisco Earthquakes, despite Estrada's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Quebec Armada at Golden Gate Park. Joachim Doucet notched his 15th save in 18 chances. Their 42-33 record puts the Armada second in the Thurman Munson League Sparky Anderson Division.
The Armada got a big at-bat from designated hitter Ennio Duccio. For the game, Duccio went 2 for 3 with 2 singles and a walk. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 13th hit of the season gave Quebec a 2-1 lead.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Duccio told the Quebec Herald.
