McCluskie Goes Wild, But Heat Win
|
Saskatoon got a terrific game from first baseman Mike McCluskie. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Kelowna, 8-7. McCluskie was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 2. Kelowna reliever Bradford Leblanc picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. George Château absorbed the loss. Tom Simpson earned the save for Kelowna, his 1st.
The Heat got a big at-bat from shortstop Cody Schultz. For the game, Schultz went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Kelowna a 8-5 lead.
"We came out aggressive," said Heat manager Bob Cunningham. "We came out swinging the bats."
The Heat have stumbled out of the gate, getting only their 1st win in 3 games.
