Ducks Get Win, Extend Streak to 4
|
The Baylor Bears got a superb performance from pitcher Dave Sumpter. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Oregon. The Ducks won the game, 3-1. In spite of the loss, Sumpter was named the player of the game. He threw 5 innings of 4-hit ball. Oregon reliever Collin Russell picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Bobby Ranieri absorbed the loss. The 6th-place Ducks have won 4 in a row.
Had Chris Glenn not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Glenn hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Ducks.
Glenn called the win "a collective effort."
