The Vanderbilt Commodores got a sterling performance from pitcher Josh Spangler, but the Buckeyes still prevailed, 4-1. Spangler was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He came in in relief and pitched to 17 batters . Ohio State reliever Rich Steverson picked up the win, upping his record to 2-2. Steve Higgins shouldered the loss. The Buckeyes bumped their record to 26-17 with this latest triumph.

Alberto Aguilar drove in one run for Ohio State. The 20-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Steve Higgins. It was his 1st RBI of the season.

"It was a tough night at the plate," said Vanderbilt manager Álex Negrón.
