Owls Lose, 5-2, at Surfers Ballpark
|
Benefiting from Bill Hopgood's productive game, the Stanford Cardinals downed the Rice Owls, 5-2. Hopgood was 4 for 4 with 4 singles. He drove in 3 runs for the Cardinals. Stanford reliever Ray Dammel picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Chris Roberts shouldered the loss. The Cardinals improve their record to 21-22 with the win over Rice.
The Cardinals got a big at-bat from left fielder Josh Dooley. For the game, Dooley went 2 for 4 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the fifth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 30th hit of the season gave Stanford a 3-2 lead.
"I thought we played a nice game," Hopgood told the Stanford Daily. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
