49'ers Fall Short, 6-5, at Ole Miss
|
Despite a great performance by Long Beach State designated hitter Jason Chasteen, the Ole Miss Rebels defeated the 49'ers by the score of 6-5 at Ballpark of Wrightsville College. Chasteen went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times. The winner was Johnny Morrison in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Tony Aaron took the loss. Gabe Perkins earned the save, his 9th, for the Rebels.
John Gilliam aided the Ole Miss cause with a 2-run triple in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the first baseman went 3-5 with a triple and a double, while adding 2 RBI.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Gilliam. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
The Rebels bumped their record to 23-17 with this latest triumph.
