The UCLA Bruins bested the Arizona State Sun Devils by a score of 5-4, with first baseman Johnny Sachs getting the main credit. On the day, Sachs was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Bruins. The winner was Jim Bigler in relief. His record improves to 3-0. David Diaz took the loss. The Bruins bumped their record to 20-20 with this latest triumph.
The Bruins got a big at-bat from left fielder Matt Hartsell. For the game, Hartsell was 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the seventh, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 13th home run of the season gave UCLA a 5-4 lead.
