Earthquakes Deal Bombers Painful Loss
|
Extra innings were needed to determine a winner at Golden Gate Park.
The South Carolina Bombers got a sterling performance from pitcher Sotatsu Hayagawa, but the Earthquakes still prevailed, 5-4. Hayagawa was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball. San Francisco reliever Kunihiko Mizuno picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Daryl Wyles absorbed the loss.
San Francisco won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With no outs and Daryl Wyles on the mound for South Carolina, designated hitter Gilbert Payet hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Earthquakes fans to their feet.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Payet.
Every game is important, even these early ones, if the Earthquakes hope to make a postseason run.
