Volunteers Fall Short, 9-8, at Clemson
The Clemson Tigers and Tennessee Volunteers obliged those fans who came to Magistrates Ballpark looking for a good time.

Clemson right fielder Joe Bates had a 4-RBI performance, which helped his team grab a 9-8 win over the Tennessee Volunteers. The win was Andy Mayhew's in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Tommy Bischof took the loss for Tennessee. Rich Tygart recorded the save for Clemson, his 7th of the season.

Had Ryan Anderson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Anderson hit a 2-run single. That made the score 9-8, in favor of the Tigers.

"We'll savor this win," Anderson told the Clemson Times, "then get ready for the next game."

Even with the win, the Tigers have a dismal 12-27 record.
