Sooners Best Jayhawks in Pitching Duel
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Oklahoma Sooners and the Kansas Jayhawks, Mike Gamez was the difference-maker. The Oklahoma right-hander earned player of the game honors in the 2-0 win. The save was Zachary Schultz's, his 12th. The Sooners bumped their record to 20-18 with this latest triumph.
The Sooners got a big at-bat from first baseman Joe Neel. For the game, Neel was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Oklahoma a 2-0 lead.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Oklahoma manager Bennie Edwards.
