The South Illinois Salukis got a sterling performance from designated hitter Chris Maynard, but the Bulldogs still prevailed, 6-5. Maynard was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He was 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Georgia reliever Nick Duke was credited with the win, to go to 2-2. Bobby Baxter took the loss for South Illinois. Georgia is now 16-21, while South Illinois is 16-21.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Georgia left fielder Steve Lange, facing Josh Kent, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Bulldogs the 6-5 win.

"We take it day by day here," said Lange, "and today was a good one for us."
