Ragin Cajuns Jolt Golden Bears with Late Rally
|
The California Golden Bears got a sterling performance from pitcher Chad McCarty, but the Ragin Cajuns still prevailed, 5-1. McCarty was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball. Louisiana-Layfayette reliever Dan Stritt was credited with the win, to go to 3-0. Adam Meents took the loss for California. The Ragin Cajuns bumped their record to 20-17 with this latest triumph.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Nick Kowalenko came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing California pitcher Justin Madison, he hit a 2-2 slider for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Louisiana-Layfayette on top, 3-1.
"We take it day by day here," said Kowalenko, "and today was a good one for us."
