Giesler Hits 2 home runs in Trojans Win
The USC Trojans topped the Rice Owls, 8-5, with shortstop Nick Giesler playing a big role. Giesler slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Trojans in the win. Keith Hamrock, the winner, improved to 3-0. He held Rice to 3 earned runs on 2 hits over 5.1 innings, while racking up 7 strikeouts. Chris Moran closed it out for his 13th save.

Giesler contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for USC in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 2-1, Giesler took a forkball from David Gentile and stroked the home run to right. His 11th home run of the season allowed the Trojans to leap in front, 5-2.

"I like our mindset right now," said USC manager Tommy Hayes.
