Cougars Run Win Streak to 8
|
The Washington State Cougars topped the Arizona Wildcats, 9-4, with youngster Barry Wirfel playing a key role. Wirfel was 2 for 5 with a home run, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2 for the Cougars in the win. Washington State reliever Mark Eppler picked up the win, upping his record to 1-1. Kevin Renn took the loss. The 23rd-place Wildcats have dropped 4 straight games.
The Cougars got a big at-bat from third baseman Andy Richards. For the game, Richards went 1-5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the top of the first, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 12th home run of the season gave Washington State a 3-0 lead.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Richards. "And not try to do too much."
