Bruins Stymie Long Beach State, Take 5-1 Win
|
UCLA used a superb performance from starting pitcher Dave Gershenson to down the Long Beach State 49'ers, 5-1. Matt Ryder finished to wrap up his 2nd save. UCLA is now 12-17, Long Beach State 15-14.
Matt Hartsell, who is tied for 10th in the RDL in bases on balls with 24, aided the UCLA cause with a run-scoring walk in the top of the second. For the game, the left fielder was 1-4 with a walk.
"I'm proud of the boys for pulling through," said Bruins manager Rick Osmond. "The wins don't come easy for this team, but everyone's got an extra jump in their step after a game like this."
