Volunteers Clip Demon Deacans in Tight Contest
|
The Tennessee Volunteers and Wake Forest Demon Deacans put on a pitchers' duel at Cypress Quarters College Grounds.
Tennessee pitcher Danny Nunez did his part in helping his team beat the Wake Forest Demon Deacans, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Earning his 4th save of the year was Jim Drennen.
The Volunteers got a big at-bat from second baseman David Vitiello. For the game, Vitiello was 2-4 with 2 singles. In the top of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 5th hit of the season gave Tennessee a 1-0 lead.
"I'm just happy to help the team win," Vitiello told the Tennessee Bulletin.
Tennessee is in 15th place in the Ron Fraser Division with a record of 13-15.
