LSU starter Mike McCollum pitched effectively against the Ole Miss Rebels at Ballpark of Wrightsville College. The left-hander led his team to a 5-1 win. McCollum, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 2 walks. The Tigers bumped their record to 14-13 with this latest triumph.

Troy Herring drew 1 walk for LSU. The 20-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the top of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring walk off Brian Thomas. It was his 12th walk of the season.

"We'll pop the top on a cold one and get back to work tomorrow," McCollum said.
