Trojans Lose, 6-1, at Surfers Ballpark
The Stanford Cardinals topped the USC Trojans, 6-1, with youngster Bill Hopgood playing a key role. Hopgood went 2-4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Cardinals in the win. Stanford reliever Mike Sova was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Kevin Maxwell. The Cardinals move to 10-14 with the win, while the Trojans drop to 12-12.

Hopgood had a big at-bat with a runner on 1st in the bottom of the first inning, when he hit a 2-run home run. The Cardinals went on to win.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Stanford manager Doug Dickey.
