Gamecocks Shut Out Demon Deacans
|
Cypress Quarters College Grounds was the site of a exceptional pitchers' duel.
Wake Forest wasted a solid 8-inning effort from starting pitcher Jared Layton, losing to South Carolina, 1-0, at Cypress Quarters College Grounds. Charlie Maples saved it for South Carolina.
The Gamecocks beat the Demon Deacans with some clutch hitting. The home run by Travis Stanford in the top of the fourth is a good example. With two down, Stanford gave his team the lead, 1-0, when he came through with the big hit.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Stanford.
South Carolina goes to 8-12, Wake Forest to 13-7.
