The Stanford Cardinals took Washington State pitcher Gary Compton's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Tribe Ballpark. The final score had Stanford getting past the Cougars, 3-0. Compton went 7 innings and allowed 1 earned run, striking out 12. Tim Evans earned the win to go to 2-2. He allowed no earned runs on 3 hits, with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts. Gary Harrison got the save, the 1st for him this season.
Travis Voss aided the Stanford cause with a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth. For the game, the catcher went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
