Mississippi State withstood an impressive performance by Houston center fielder Brian Martin to defeat the Cougars, 8-6, at Crowley College Grounds. Martin went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Devonte Lebeaux nailed down his 6th save. The 20th-place Bulldogs lifted their record to 7-10.

Mississippi State took a 8-6 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With no one out, catcher Matt Steiner hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.

"It was a nice win for our side today," said Bulldogs manager Carlton Price. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
