Golden Bears Get Road Win, 7-3
|
The California Golden Bears topped the Stanford Cardinals, 7-3, with right fielder Evan Wescott playing a big role. Wescott was 1 for 2 with a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Golden Bears in the win. California reliever Brock Buchanan picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jay Fredrick shouldered the loss. California is now 7-8, while Stanford is 5-10.
Wescott contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for California in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 1-0, Wescott took a slider from Jay Fredrick and stroked the double to center. His 3rd double of the season allowed the Golden Bears to leap in front, 3-1.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Wescott. "And not try to do too much."
