The inspired effort of Arizona left fielder Danny Abreu was not enough to prevent a 9-8 loss to the USC Trojans. Abreu went 3-5 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. USC reliever Chris Moran picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Billy Murray absorbed the loss. Justin Anderson finished to wrap up his 1st save.

USC used the bat of Austin Bond to get the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Trojans ahead, 9-7. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said USC field general Tommy Hayes.

Arizona now has a 6-game losing streak.
