Bulldogs Win in Extras
|
The Mississippi State Bulldogs overcame a good performance by USC designated hitter Chris Whatley to knock off USC, 9-8, at Nesquehoning College Fields. Whatley was 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. The 13th-place Bulldogs improved to 6-6.
Matt Drake's hit in the top of the tenth was a game-changer. With two out, he rapped a fastball from Dave Tressler for a run-scoring double. It put Mississippi State in front, 9-8.
"What a great win for our team," said a jubilant Carlton Price, the Mississippi State manager.
