Golden Eagles, Martin Pin Bad Loss on 49'ers
|
With center fielder Mat Martin leading the charge, the South Mississippi Golden Eagles defeated the Long Beach State 49'ers, 11-2, at Ballpark of Storm Lake College. Martin, who is tied for 8th in the RDL in home runs with 5, slugged 2 home runs, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. South Mississippi reliever Kevin Scott was credited with the win, to go to 3-1. Matt Connors took the loss for Long Beach State. The Golden Eagles bumped their record to 7-5 with this latest triumph.
Martin contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for South Mississippi in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Martin took a curveball from Matt Connors and stroked the home run to left-center. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Golden Eagles to leap in front, 2-1.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Martin. "And not try to do too much."
