Cardinals Come Back Late, Nip Tigers
|
Stanford beat LSU at South Paris College Grounds, eking out a 5-4 win. The win was due in large part to pitcher Bubba Pell, who earned player of the game honors. Stanford reliever Gary Harrison was credited with the win, to go to 1-1. John Robinson took the loss for LSU. Even with the win, the Cardinals have a dismal 4-8 record.
Had Jack Kelley not delivered a key base hit in the top of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Kelley hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Cardinals.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Kelley. "And not try to do too much."
