Tar Heels Fall Short, 4-3, at Miami
The Miami Hurricanes overcame a good performance by North Carolina left fielder Jesse Strozewski to knock off North Carolina, 4-3, at Gremlins Ballpark. Strozewski was 1-2 with a home run and was hit by a pitch. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Miami reliever Rich Steele was credited with the win, to go to 2-0. Kurt Wymer took the loss for North Carolina. Even with the win, the Hurricanes have a dismal 4-8 record.

William Smith was 1-3 for Miami. The 20-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Kurt Wymer. It was his 2nd RBI of the season.

In comments to the Miami Gazette, Smith admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
