49'ers Prevail, 7-5, Over Stanford
|
The Stanford Cardinals got a superb performance from designated hitter Bill Hopgood, but the Long Beach State 49'ers still won the game, 7-5. Hopgood was named the player of the game despite the loss. He went 1-3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. The Cardinals, now 3-7, have lost 4 straight.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd and one out in the top of the seventh inning. That's when second baseman Tim Mitchell drew a walk. The 49'ers went on to win.
"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Mitchell.
