Salukis Continue Skid Thanks to Lewis, Cavaliers
The Virginia Cavaliers trumped the South Illinois Salukis, 6-3, at Ballpark of Redwood College. Virginia catcher Sam Lewis was named player of the game for his performance. He was 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Andrew Welborn was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 1 run on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Mark Lochmann locked down his 1st save.

Lewis contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Virginia in the bottom of the first. With his team trailing 1-0, Lewis took a curveball from Brandon Roberts and stroked the home run to left-center. His 6th home run of the season allowed the Cavaliers to leap in front, 3-1.

Lewis told a Virginia Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
