Crimson Tide Come Back Late, Nip Cyclones
|
The Iowa State Cyclones got a superb performance from pitcher Justin McCaffrey, but the Alabama Crimson Tide still won the game, 3-2. McCaffrey was named the player of the game despite the loss. He threw 5 innings of 3-hit ball. Alabama reliever Danny Shaw picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Jason Allen was saddled with the loss. Adrian McKinley locked down his 1st save.
Matt Gerhart drove in one run for Alabama. The 20-year old right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Jason Allen. It was his 1st RBI of the season.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Gerhart.
At 5-3, the Crimson Tide have played well so far.
