Ashburn Goes Wild, But Bears Win
South Mississippi got a terrific performance from third baseman Nick Ashburn, but it wasn't enough to beat the Baylor Bears. Baylor won the Ballpark of Storm Lake College contest, 10-9. Ashburn was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4. At 5-1, the Bears have played well so far.

Had Tyler Mortensen not delivered a key base hit in the top of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Mortensen hit a grand slam. That made the score 10-7, in favor of the Bears.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Mortensen told the Baylor Times.
