Georgia Tech got a terrific performance from pitcher Eric O'Sullivan, but it wasn't enough to beat the Florida Gators. Florida won the Ballpark of Bismarck College contest, 3-2. O'Sullivan was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 7 innings of shutout ball. The win was Rusty Tine's in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Tyler McIntosh took the loss for Georgia Tech. Steve Paul earned the save for Florida, his 2nd.
Jose Lopez swatted a 3-run home run for Florida in the bottom of the eighth. The designated hitter went 2 for 4 for the game, including 1 home run and 1 double. He scored 1 run and batted in 3.
Afterward, Gators manager Torazo Yamamoto was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
At 5-1, the Gators have played well so far.
