Nash Goes Wild, But Cougars Win
|
The Washington State Cougars overcame a good performance by Rice designated hitter George Nash to knock off Rice, 8-4, at Tribe Ballpark. Nash was 3 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. Washington State reliever Eric Anderson picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jon Nowicki shouldered the loss. Washington State, now 3-2, has gotten their season off to a good start.
Washington State took a 6-4 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning. With one out, center fielder Barry Wirfel hit a 2-run home run that set the crowd abuzz.
"Feels good to get the job done," Wirfel said after the game.
