The Vanderbilt Commodores grabbed a 17-9 win over the Auburn Tigers at Zodiac Ballpark. Vanderbilt catcher Bill Dowd was 4-6 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 6 to earn player of the game honors. Bobby Peters sewed up the save, his 1st. Vanderbilt, now 2-3, is off to a slow start.

Vanderbilt grabbed the momentum in the top of the fifth, when Dowd hit a grand slam home run. His 1st home run of the season put the Commodores out in front, 9-5.

"Feels good to get the job done," Dowd said after the game.
