Beavers Edge Past Owls, 5-4
|
The Oregon State Beavers dealt the Rice Owls a 5-4 loss at Toughkenamon College Fields. Mark Wolter was the star on offense. He went 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Oregon State reliever Marc Topoleski picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. David Gentile shouldered the loss. Brian LaJeunesse closed the game out for Oregon State, earning his 1st save.
Wolter had a game-changing home run in the top of the ninth. On a 1-1 fastball from David Gentile, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Beavers a 4-2 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the year for Wolter.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Rice manager Jimmy Naylor said following the tough loss.
