49'ers Roll to 8-2 Win Over Cougars
The Long Beach State 49'ers beat the Washington State Cougars, 8-2, at Ballpark of Macclenny College. The win was largely due to the efforts of pinch hitter Ethan Whidbee, who captured player of the game honors. He was 1-1 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Long Beach State starter Art Hall was credited with the win after throwing 84 pitches over 5 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Long Beach State, now 1-2, is off to a slow start.

Whidbee had a big at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning, when he hit a grand slam. The 49'ers went on to win.

"We were firing on all cylinders today," said 49'ers manager Richie Robertson.
