Cougars Edge Beavers, 6-5
|
Oregon State right fielder Andy Stanley had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 6-5, to Washington State at Tribe Ballpark. Stanley was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Washington State reliever Brandon Swift picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Paul Nowak shouldered the loss. Eric Martindale was credited with the save for Washington State, his 1st of the season.
The Cougars got a big at-bat from second baseman Jonathan Vera. For the game, Vera went 2-5 with 2 singles. In the bottom of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 4th hit of the season gave Washington State a 6-5 lead.
"Honestly, I'm not frustrated," said Oregon State manager Mike Cole. "The effort was great."
With the loss, Oregon State is 1-1.
