Longhorns Get Close Win Over Owls
The Texas Longhorns satisfied the home crowd at Ballpark of Celebration College, treating them to a season-opening win, 3-1, over the Rice Owls. Starting Pitcher Joe Arnt was named player of the game for Texas. Texas reliever Jonathan Adams was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Mike Churchman took the loss. Craig Mehlin earned the save for Texas, his 1st.

The Longhorns got a big at-bat from first baseman Corey Montanye. For the game, Montanye went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the eighth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a run-scoring single. His 3rd hit of the season gave Texas a 2-1 lead.

"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Texas manager Mitsuzuka Ito said.
