Dancin' Outlaws Score Late, Upend Bush Wackers, 9-0
|
The West Virginia Dancin' Outlaws faced a tough opponent in Brisbane pitcher Luis Santana, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Penlee Park by a final score of 9-0. Santana went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs. West Virginia reliever John Swope picked up the win, upping his record to 7-0. Frank Patton absorbed the loss. At 83-73, the Dancin' Outlaws find themselves in second place in the Donnie Moore League Dusty Baker Division.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Sandy Alvarado came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Brisbane pitcher Joel Savage, he hit a 0-2 cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting West Virginia on top, 1-0.
"We did a lot of things right," said Alvarado.
